SOLAR System
The SOLAR System is the University's self-service system which gives faculty, staff, and students online access to manage personal information. Faculty members use SOLAR to:
- Find out their NetID and establish a NetID password
- Sign up for SB Alert (emergency communications sent to hand-held devices)
- Update phone numbers and addresses
- Access class photo rosters
- Submit grades
- View advisee information
- View vacation and sick accruals
- Vote in faculty/professor elections
To access SOLAR:
- Go to the SOLAR System Welcome Page.
- Click the SOLAR LOGIN button.
- Type in your Stony Brook ID number and password. When you are hired, you are assigned a Stony Brook ID number and issued an ID card. This ID is used to log in to the SOLAR System.
- Your initial SOLAR password can be obtained by visiting the SOLAR Password Help page. A new SOLAR password will be electronically generated and the instructions for constructing your password will be sent to your "preferred" e-mail address as it is listed in the University system.
- After you log in using your initial (or reset) password, you will be prompted to change it. The password should contain a combination of letters, numbers and symbols and be something that is easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess (avoid common words or names, etc.) Never share your SOLAR password with anyone.
Be sure to enter your personal information for each of the links listed under Security and Personal Data. Fill in your addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses and emergency contacts. The preferred e-mail account you list in SOLAR will be the one that all University communications are sent to, so make sure it is an account you check often. If you do not select a preferred e-mail, your campus e-mail address will be set as your default.
