Campus Announcements

Campus Announcements was created to deliver a weekly list of events or activities that may be of interest to faculty and staff. All active faculty and staff receive a weekly email listing of these events and have the opportunity to post their own announcements. The Campus Announcements distribution list considerably reduces the volume of emails that faculty and staff would otherwise receive from those on campus advertising their events. If you do not wish to receive the Campus Announcements mailing, you can opt-out at any time. More Info. . .

Email

There are several email systems available for your use at Stony Brook University. The Division of Information Technology provides three main email systems:

Lotus Notes

Lotus Notes is a server-based email system recommended for faculty and staff use. It requires a Lotus Notes client to be installed on your computer and uses a specially prepared ID file for password security (both PC and Mac versions are available). Mail is stored on the Lotus Notes server and is accessed over the network via the Lotus Notes client.  Web-based access is also available. Because of its high security, Lotus Notes mail is mandated for all University Hospital employees. Mail stored on the Lotus Notes server is backed up and may be recovered. Support for this system is provided by Client Support. More Info. . .

Sparky

Students use Sparky as their email system.  It is a UNIX-based mail system that can be accessed by mail reader programs (Eudora, Thunderbird, Outlook, etc.), by the web using Webmail, and by Pine for text-based email. Pine is available by logging on to the Sparky server via Secure Shell Client (SSH) or telnet. Support for Sparky is provided by Teaching, Learning + Technology. More Info. . .

MS

MS is a UNIX-based mail system for faculty and staff. It can be accessed by mail reader programs (Eudora, Thunderbird, Outlook, etc.), by the web using Webmail, and by telneting (SSH) directly to MS.CC.SUNYSB.EDU and using Pine.  MS is used by individuals that wish to bring mail down to their workstations.  Support for MS is provided by Client Support. Other Mail Systems

Some departments maintain their own mail systems.  See your local departmental administrator concerning these systems.
