E-Mail - Sparky, Lotus Notes and other SBU E-Mail Systems.

Mail Configuration

Most mail systems (not Lotus Notes) require certain parameters that specify where to send and receive mail. The parameters are generally described by the mail program as Outgoing SMTP Server and Incoming Mail Server

The Division of Information Technology maintains an Outgoing SMTP Server named mailrelay.stonybrook.edu

This may only be used when connected to the University Network. At home, you must use your Internet Service Provider’s Outgoing SMTP Server. For example, if you have Cablevision’s Optonline service at home, you should use mail.optonline.net when at home.

Incoming Mail Server will be the name of the server that you want to get mail from (i.e. notes.cc.sunysb.edu for Lotus Notes, ms.cc.sunysb.edu for MS Mail, etc.) As with the three main DoIT e-mail systems, MailRelay.stonybrook.edu is also subject to filtering rules.
