May
1	Wednesday	Undergraduate students may apply for Fall (December) and Winter (January) graduation. Candidates must apply on-line via the SOLAR system. Last day to apply is Monday, September 12, 2011.
30	Monday	Memorial Day (Classes Not in session)
31	Tuesday	Summer Term I Session Code C begins (05/31 - 7/08)
June
28	Tuesday	Classes begin in the School of Health Technology and Management for new students in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant and Respiratory Care.
July
1	Friday	Classes begin for 3rd and 4th year students in the School of Medicine.
4	Monday	Independence Day (Holiday observed, classes Not in session).
5	Tuesday	Summer Term II Session Code 9 (07/05 - 08/03) and Session Code M (07/05 - 08/18) begin.
11	Tuesday	Summer Term II Session Code D begins (07/11 - 08/18).

TUITION & FEE LIABILITY RESULTING FROM STUDENT WITHDRAWALS & CANCELLATIONS

Students who officially withdraw from the University or reduce the number of credits for which they are registered may be entitled to a proportionate refund of tuition paid or proportionate adjustment of tuition charges. The first day of classes as scheduled by the campus shall be deemed to be the first day that classes are offered, as scheduled by the academic calendar.

Fall 2011 Calendar

AUGUST
21	Sunday	For Graduate and Undergraduate Stony Brook Non Credit career, Medicine and Dental Medicine students, may apply for Fall (December) and Winter (January) graduation. Candidates must apply on-line via the SOLAR system. Last day to apply is Saturday, October 1, 2011.
22	Monday	Classes begin in the School of Medicine for 2nd year students. Classes begin in Dental Medicine for 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students; and 1st year students attend orientation.
29	Monday	Classes begin in the Basic Sciences, Graduate Program in Public Health, the Schools of Nursing; Social Welfare; Health Technology and Management; 1st year students in the School of Medicine; 1st year students in the School of Dental Medicine; and West Campus. (~~$40 late registration fee assessed to all students who are not enrolled in at least one course before August 29th~~ Due to Hurricane Irene classes are cancelled.).
30	Tuesday	Late Registration begins, $40 fee assessed to all students who are not enrolled in at least one course before August 30th.
SEPTEMBER
5	Monday	Last day for all students to drop a course or withdraw from the university without tuition liability. Contact your HSC school.
5	Monday	Labor Day (Classes Not in session). Offices Closed.
13	Tuesday	For all students, last day to drop a course without a "W" being recorded. Last day for undergraduates to add a course and process a swap.
13	Tuesday	For Undergraduates, Graduates, Stony Brook Non Credit career, Medicine and Dental Medicine students. Last day to file for Fall (December) and Winter (January) graduation. Candidates must apply on-line via the Solar System. Click on the "Apply for Graduation" link on the Solar System homepage. Undergraduate students who have completed (posted to their records) at least 108 credits (or greater) with a declared major will be eligible to apply. After 9/13/2011 you must complete the "Apply For Graduation Form" available on http://www.stonybrook.edu/hscstudents/docs/ApplyGradForm.pdf If you have any questions, contact your HSC department.
20	Tuesday	Last day for graduate students to add or withdraw from a course. All registration transactions must be handled through your HSC school.
28	Wednesday	Rosh Hashanah - Observed (Classes Not in session after 5 P.M.)
29-30	Thursday-Friday	Rosh Hashanah - Observed (Classes Not in session)
OCTOBER
7	Friday	Yom Kippur - Observed (Classes Not in session after 5 p.m.)
8	Saturday	Yom Kippur - Observed (Classes Not in session).
28	Friday	Last day for undergraduates to drop a course (W will be recorded). (Withdrawal from all classes must be processed by the student's HSC school.)
NOVEMBER
1	Tuesday	Last day for removal of Incomplete (I) grades from 2011 Spring and Summer term codes.
7	Monday	Tentative date for Winter and Spring 2012 registration for graduate and undergraduate students (not including non-matrics). Check the Solar System for your enrollment appointment.
23-27	Wednesday-Sunday	Thanksgiving recess (Classes Not in session). Classes resume Monday, Nov. 28, 2011.
DECEMBER
1	Thursday	Students in Graduate, Medicine, Dental Medicine and Stony Brook Non Credit Career programs may apply for Spring and Summer 2012 graduation via the SOLAR system. Deadline date is Friday, March 2, 2012.
12	Monday	Undergraduate and Graduate students, last day to withdraw or take a leave of absence from the university. Withdrawing or a leave of absence from the University must be processed by the student's HSC school.
16	Friday	School of Medicine and School of Nursing: Winter recess begins at 12:00pm. Graduate Program in Public Health: Winter recess begins at 2:00 PM; School of Dental Medicine: Winter recess begins at 5:00pm. Programs in the Basic Sciences and School of Health Technology and Management: Winter recess begins at the close of classes.
17	Saturday	School of Social Welfare: Winter recess begins at the close of classes.
20	Tuesday	Fall Term ends.
22	Thursday	University Commencement

Spring 2012 Calendar

JANUARY
3	Tuesday	Classes begin in the Basic Science programs and in the Schools of Medicine and some programs in Health Technology Management ($50 late registration fee assessed); Dental Medicine classes resume. For session code add/drop dates see Table of Session Dates - Spring 2012, below.
16	Monday	Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (classes not in session).
23	Monday	Classes begin in the Graduate Program in Public Health; Schools of Nursing; Social Welfare; Health Technology and Management and west campus. ($50 late registration fee assessed to all students who are not enrolled in at least one course before January 23, 2012.
28	Saturday	First Day of Saturday Classes. This includes East (HSC), West and Manhattan campuses and SPD online.
29	Sunday	Last day for undergraduate and graduate students to drop a course or withdraw from the University without incurring tuition liability. Withdrawing from the University must be processed through your HSC program.
FEBRUARY
3	Friday	Last day for undergraduate students to add a course; last day for graduate and undergraduates to drop a course without a withdrawal (W) being recorded. Last day for students to process a Swap.
3	Friday	Undergraduate students: Last day for Spring (May) or Summer (August) degree candidates to apply for graduation. Undergraduates must apply on-line via Solar (Click on the "Apply for Graduation" Link on your homepage.) Undergraduate students who have completed (posted to their records) at least 108 credits (or greater) with a declared major will be eligible to apply. After 2/3/2012, you must complete the 'Apply for Graduation' form available on http://www.stonybrook.edu/hscstudents/docs/ApplyGradForm.pdf. If you have any questions, contact your HSC department.
6	Monday	Dental Medicine spring classes, late registration, and add/drop begins ($50 late registration fee assessed).
10	Friday	Last day for graduate students to add or withdraw from a course (W will be recorded). Tuition liability will apply.
MARCH
2	Friday	Graduate, Medicine, Dental Medicine and Stony Brook Non Credit career programs: Last day May/June (Spring) or July/August (Summer) 2012 degree and certificate candidates to file degree application in order to be included in the University Commencement publication. Candidates for graduation must apply on-line via SOLAR: Click on Student Records and Registration, Degree Progress/Graduation, Apply for Graduation.
12	Monday	Last day for removal of Incomplete (I) grades from the Fall 2011 and Winter 2012 term and session codes.
APRIL
2-8	Monday-Sunday	Spring Recess (classes not in session). Classes resume Monday April 9, 2012. Good Friday Holiday and Passover Holiday (classes not in session).
9	Monday	Tentative date for Summer and Fall 2012 registration for graduate and undergraduate students (not including non-matrics). Check the Solar System for your enrollment appointment. Your enrollment appointment for summer may be different from your fall enrollment appointment.
MAY
4	Friday	Last day for undergraduate and graduate students to withdraw from the university. Withdrawing from the university must be processed through your HSC school.
15	Tuesday	Spring semester ends. For session codes, see Table of Session Dates - Spring 2012, below.
17	Thursday	School of Medicine Commencement. Location: Staller Center, 10 A.M.
18	Friday	University Commencement.
