Practicum in Teaching of Spanish

The objective of this course is the presentation of the basics principles of learning and teaching of a second language. In order to reach this objective, equal emphasis will be put in the theory and practice, specially in the following topics: Universals of language, second language acquisition, second language learning and language teaching, applied methodology in classroom situations.

Attendance, participation, in-class work: 10%
Assignments: 30%
Final project/Term paper: 60%

Attendance is required at all class sessions. If a student is unable to attend, s/he is expected to inform the professor of the reason for absence. à Assignments will be assigned throughout the term. Late assignments will NOT be accepted.

The Final Project/Term Paper will be due on Dec. 13 before 1:00 pm. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have a physical or mental disability, which will make it difficult to carry out the work as outlined for this course, or which will require extra time on examinations, please notify me as soon as possible as to make appropriate arrangements.

The Department of Hispanic Languages and Literature will report any cases of academic dishonesty to the Academic Judiciary Committee. This will result in the grade of "Q" on the student's transcript which cannot be removed until the student takes and passes a seminar on "Academic Dishonesty". Academic dishonesty includes plagiarism (copying someone else's ideas/words without citing them), cheating-during exams, quizzes, copying homeworks, and all other types.
