THINK WHAT YOU DRINK

How many pounds of sugar do you consume from the soda you drink?

  1. Write the number of 12-ounce cans of soda you drink in one week; then
multiply that number by 9, the number of teaspoons of sugar in one can of soda
to get the Total number of teaspoons of sugar in one week.

          _________________ X 9 tsp. sugar = __________ total teaspoons in one week

  1. Multiply your total number by 52 to find out how many teaspoons of sugar you eat in one year.

          _________________ X 52 weeks = ___________ teaspoons of sugar in one year

  1. Divide that number by 56 to find out how many pounds of sugar you eat in one year from soda.
    (56 teaspoons of sugar = 1 pound)

_________________ ¸ 56 tsp. = _______________ pounds of sugar in one year from soda

Remember, you also eat many other foods which contain sugar. The average American eats about 125 pounds of sugar each year! That’s a lot of sugar – how can you reduce this amount?
