Office Hours

If you had to start asking for letters of recommendation today, how many professors would know you well enough to write you a good letter?

Letters of recommendation are only part of the reason for visiting a professor's office hours. You might have questions about lecture material, research, study abroad, majors, or minors.

You do not have to visit every single professor who has taught you a course, and you are probably not going to befriend every single professor you happen to visit. That's okay.

Just remember this: if you are regularly visiting at least some of your professors during office hours you are short-changing yourself.

How often does "regularly visiting" mean? That depends on a number of factors:

  1. What questions and issues you want to talk about
  2. How busy the professor is
  3. What your schedule is like

So, take the plunge or wade in deeper and make sure that you use your professors' office hours.
