Stony Brook University Career Center, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services celebrated Student Employment Week on April 12 by hosting the Student Employee and Supervisor of the Year Awards. This year’s event had a huge increase in student nominations compared to past years, which led to the selection of 10 top students — seven distinction of excellence awardees and three grand prize winners. With almost 5,000 students working in more than 200 departments, these 59 student nominations and 23 supervisor nominations were each extraordinary in their own way.

David Ullman from the Charles B. Wang Center was selected Supervisor of the Year. His achievements were highlighted in a video with several of his past and present student employees praising his leadership and guidance throughout their college careers.

The three grand prize winners were also presented with video clips of their supervisors sharing stories about all of their accolades. The first-prize winner and Student Employee of the Year for Stony Brook University was undergraduate Gabrielle Khalife from the Office of the Dean of Students. She has left a significant impact on the department and the University as a whole with her assistance in the development of the Red Watch Band Care Team.

Assistant Dean of Students Ellen Driscoll gave the keynote speech, talking about finding love and happiness in your everyday job responsibilities. The event closed with lunch and raffle prizes, which were donated by several campus departments.
