Professor Todd Pittinsky, from the Department of Technology and Society at Stony Brook University, has been selected as a founding member of the Univision Communications Inc. (UCI) Corporate Social Responsibility External Advisory Board. UCI is the leading media company serving Hispanic America.

The External Advisory Board (EAB) will provide strategic advice, thought-leadership, best practices, and insights to inform Univision’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Internal Council. The EAB will advance community empowerment platforms to build strong minds, promote healthy habits and celebrate diversity, as well as other focus areas.

“The creation of a Corporate Social Responsibility External Advisory Board is an exciting step we are taking to ensure we are serving and empowering our Hispanic and multicultural communities in the most informed and inclusive way possible,” said Jessica Herrera-Flanigan, EVP of Government and Corporate Affairs at UCI and Chair of the Board. “As we look at the challenges facing our communities, coupled with our commitment to lift their voices and increase our engagement, the External Advisory Board will play an instrumental role in helping shape and steer UCI’s social impact work toward greater success.

In 2004 Pittinsky founded the Allophilia Project, helping to build diverse and inclusive schools, workplaces, and communities that are not merely tolerant, but truly positive, constructive and joyful. He also wrote Us Plus Them: Tapping the Positive Power of Difference (Harvard Business Review Press, 2012), in which he challenges the effectiveness of standard attempts to fight prejudice and combat hate, and reveals how we benefit from the mixing of different ethnic, racial, national, social and religious groups in a globalized world.

Joining him on the EAB are other innovators and leaders in their respective fields with robust records of working to empower diverse communities across the United States.
