Our Mission

The Dining Services program is being developed to support the sustainability mission of Stony Brook Southampton.  At the newly-created Student Center Café, a wide variety of meal options will be provided for the entire Southampton campus community, under the best possible environment-friendly practices.

As the Stony Brook Southampton academic curriculum will be in the national forefront of advancing sustainability research, education, and practical implementation, the dining services program will rely on extensive involvement of the campus community to continuously refine menus and practices in keeping with advancing knowledge and technologies.

A Dining Services Sustainability Committee, consisting of students, faculty, and staff, will meet on a regular basis to review progress on the program objectives and to recommend improvement in environment friendly practices. 

Among the specific practices being implemented are the procurement of locally grown and organic products whenever possible, maintaining separate meat and vegetarian grills, and minimizing the use of disposable packaging.  In addition, all patrons of the Student Center Café will be expected to fully separate their waste in the appropriate containers at the end of their meal.
