The Stony Brook Southampton Meal Plan
To support safe and clean residential facilities, as well as to provide an affordable and socially responsible campus dining program for the entire campus community, resident students are required to participate in the meal plan, and commuter students are strongly encouraged to join.

Through a provision of the New York State Tax Law, a student who purchases a University meal plan is exempt from paying sales tax. Under the terms of this exemption, the meal plan may only be used by the student and no portion of the meal plan may be refunded.

To provide both value and flexibility, there are three Resident Meal Plans to choose from:

Eco-Friendly
$1,739/semester
19 meals/week
no flex credits
  Sustainable
$1,953/semester
14 meals/week
225 flex credits
  Global
$2,487/semester
12 meals/week
750 flex credits

Flex Credits – Participants also receive Flex Credits (225 on the Sustainable Plan, 750 on the Global Plan) each semester to purchase a la carte items, either during or between meal periods. Flex Credits expire on the last day of each semester and do not carry over to the following semester. They may be used at the Southampton Center Café as well as at 10 dining service locations at the Stony Brook campus. Additional money may be added to Flex Credits at the Center Café (payment by cash or credit card), on-line at campusdining.org (payment by credit card).

Campus Cash – Campus Cash is not part of the meal plan and is subject to New York State sales tax. It may be used for laundry machines, photocopy machines, print services, as well as on many soda and snack vending machines, both on the Southampton and the Stony Brook campuses. Campus Cash expires after two years of inactivity. Funds may be added to Campus Cash at the Cash-to-Account machine located next to the ATM in the West Lobby of the Southampton Student Center (cash payment) or on-line on SOLAR (payment by credit card). You can add money through SOLAR under “Student Services Quick Links.” Click here to view the brochure (.pdf).

Bookstore Campus Account - The Bookstore Campus Account is a convenience that allows a student to buy textbooks and other necessary school supplies even if they do not have the cash. It is easy to sign up for the Campus Bookstore Account on-line at stonybrook.edu/bca or on SOLAR and the charge will be placed on the student’s University Student Account. The student may then purchase books and other supplies at the Student Center. Click here to view the brochure (.pdf).

All of the above accounts are accessed with the Stony Brook Southampton ID card at cash registers or vending machines.

Effective for the Spring 2010 semester, the Campus Bookstore Account will be streamlined.

Unused funds will no longer need to be rolled from semester to semester.

The last day to use the Campus Bookstore Account in the Fall Semester will be October 15, 2009, after which all unused funds will be refunded to your student account.

Notes about use of these plans on the Stony Brook campus:
All of the above plans may be used at the Stony Brook campus, with the exception of “Meals” that are only offered at the Southampton Campus. The Stony Brook campus has a full declining balance resident meal plan that includes “Campus Points” that may only be used on the Stony Brook campus.
