Freedom of Information Law

The Freedom of Information Law, originally enacted in 1974, affirms your right to know how your government operates. It provides rights of access to records reflective of governmental decisions and policies that affect the lives of every New Yorker.

Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests must be submitted in writing to:

Stony Brook University will not accept any FOIL request submitted electronically.

Please be as specific and detailed as possible in the description of your Freedom of Information Law request. If possible, supply any dates, titles, file designations, or any other information that will help to find the requested records.
