Changes in Enrollment

Undergraduate students are considered full-time with 12 or more credits, three-quarter time with 9 to 11 credits, half-time with 6 to 8 credits, and less than half-time with 1 to 5 credits. Aid is generally awarded based on the assumption that you will be full-time. If you enroll for less than full-time, your awards may be adjusted. In order to be eligible for a Federal Direct loan, you must be enrolled for at least 6 credits each term. Please be aware that in order to be eligible for TAP, you must be enrolled for at least 12 credits.

Graduate students are considered full time under the following conditions:

  • G1 and G3 enrolled for 12 or more credits
  • G2 and G4 enrolled for 9 or more credits
  • G5 advanced to candidacy and enrolled for the appropriate full-time course-load

In order to be eligible for a Federal Direct loan, you must be enrolled for at least 6 credits each term (or the appropriate full-time course-load status for G5 students). Based on NY State TAP guidelines, you must be enrolled for at least 12 credits in order to be considered full-time for TAP.
