- The official groundbreaking for the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics was held on Tuesday, May 26. The Center was started in 2007 with a gift from the James and Marilyn Simons Foundation, which includes a new building for the Center, which opened November 2010. The building is contiguous to and has direct connections to the Physics Building and Mathematics Tower. The center is a six story 40,000 square feet building including a 236 seat auditorium, 90 seat lecture hall and seminar rooms. The Simons Foundation gift also provides an endowment to support the continuing operations of the Center.
