New Electrical Feeder
Please be advised that through an ongoing effort to improve the hospital's electrical reliability, the Stony Brook Medical Center (SBUMC) Facilities Department is installing a new high voltage electrical feeder. This feeder installation will start at the West campus substation, traverse the West campus through a combination of new underground trenches and existing tunnels, and terminate at the Medical Center's electrical distribution station on Level 3. Along this planned route, pedestrian and vehicular traffic interruptions may result due to excavation and infrastructure installations in grassy areas, sidewalks and across roadways. Temporary fencing, traffic cones or other means of diversion will be visible to aid in your safe travels across the campus. Visible signs of this excavation effort will be seen in the next 1-2 weeks. The project will take approximately 13 months to complete.
The first phase of this project is to install 3 new underground electrical vaults from the West campus electrical substation, along Gym Road and John S. Toll Drive, turning south into the loading area and entering the utility tunnel at Harriman Hall. Other phases include tunnel work between Harriman Hall and the Life Sciences Library, as well as additional excavation efforts between Life Sciences Library and the Medical Center campus. Additional notifications will be disseminated prior to the commencement of the work.
As always, your cooperation and patience is greatly appreciated. Please contact Mr. Harold Smith (SBUMC Project Management) at (631) 634-1531 if you have any questions or concerns.Thank you.
