Coordinator of Student Teaching and Field Experience.
Before coming to Stony Brook, Irene Marchegiani was Full Professor of
Italian at the California State University, Long Beach. She was also
the resident director of the CSU International Program in Italy. Her
research and teaching interests include language acquisition, Italian and
world women writers, the poetry of Giacomo Leopardi, theory and practice of
translation, and contemporary Italian poetry.
Her translation of
Torquato Tasso’s Aminta was
awarded the
prestigious Italian Monselice “Diego Valeri” prize
for translation. In 2010 she
received the Astrolabio Prize
awarded by the University of Pisa, Italy, for her collection of poems
La vita in cerchio and for her overall literary career.
In 2012 she was recognized
by the American Association of
Italian Teachers, Long Island Chapter with the Dante Alighieri Award.
She is the current AATI representative for the State of New York and
the Director of Undergraduate Studies for the European Languages Department.
