College Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP)

Overview:
CSTEP Student & Technology
The Stony Brook CSTEP program serves around 250 underrepresented minority and low income students each year. The goal of the program is to promote academic excellence and provide support services for its participants. The mandate of this New York State Education Department funded program is to increase the numbers of underrepresented minority and income-eligible college students pursuing degrees in scientific, technological, health and health-related fields including many areas where licensure is required.

Selection Criteria:

  • New York State resident
  • Member of definite ethnic minority or student who meets the economic criteria
  • Full-time matriculating student at Stony Brook University

Services

  • tutoring/study groups/preparation for professional school exams
  • academic/career advisement
  • a pre-freshman summer residential program for credit and academic enrichment
  • pre-professional internship placements on the campus, at the University’s Hospital and Health Sciences Center and in the community
  • leadership training through mentoring
