Michael Hacker attended public schools in New York City, was graduated from Stuyvesant High School, received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the City College of New York and is pursuing Doctoral studies at New York University. He is Co-director of the Center for Technological Literacy at Hofstra University and serves as a Research Professor at SUNY at Stony Brook.

For 38 years, technology education has been at the core of his professional life. As a classroom teacher and department supervisor in a public school district, as the New York State Education Department (NYSED) State Supervisor for Technology Education, and as a teacher educator and director of several large-scale National Science Foundation-funded projects, his energies have been devoted to bringing technological education into the mainstream of education.

Mr. Hacker has co-authored four technology education textbooks, published dozens of papers and articles in national and international journals and consulted in over 20 States and internationally. He has directed several international NATO-sponsored conferences on Technology Education and edited two sets of NATO Proceedings. He has served as a peer reviewer for the National Science Foundation and was a member of the team writing the national Standards for Technological Literacy.
