Fire Prevention

Every year college and university students experience a growing number of fire-related emergencies. To help bring attention to this serious concern, September has been designated Campus Fire Safey Month.

Fire safety education is an effective method of reducing the occurence of fires, loss of life and destruction of property. Stony Brook University Fire Marshals from Environmental Health & Safety planned the following events and activities with the Division of Campus Residences. All students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend and participate in fire safety program activities throughout the year.

Live Fire Demo and Fire Extinguisher Training

• Description: Join the Fire Marshals as they show how a fire grows and progresses in a mock residence hall room and try your hand at using a fire extinguisher at our live fire extinguisher demonstration.

• Description: The day will include fire extinguisher demos, the fire safety trailer, LIRR, State Forest Rangers, OFPC, Suffolk County FRES (multiple displays), FD display, EH&S display, University FM Haz Mat trailer and display, Game show wheel, UPD display, SBU Emergency Management Fire News display and photographer, Cooking demo, Campus Residences display, WUSB, Wolfie, Smokey the Bear, multiple safety vendor displays, hand-outs and give-aways.
