The Dr. William McAdoo Memorial Scholarship was established in 2004
to honor the former Chair of the Africana Studies Department, who was
an ardent supporter of diversity, equality, and social justice. The
Dr. William McAdoo Memorial Scholarship has been created in his name
to acknowledge exceptional undergraduate students who excel in their
studies while actively advocating for social justice issues; display
their interest and commitment by participating, organizing and coordinating
a variety of extracurricular and community outreach or organizing activities;
demonstrate leadership qualities; and make contributions to diversity
related programs on the Stony Brook University campus or in their communities.
Award: $500
Eligibility:
- Be a full-time Stony Brook student the year the scholarship is awarded
- Minimun 3.0 GPA
- Demonstrate potential and promise
- Demonstrate leadership qualities and community involvement
- Demonstrate financial need
- Preference in selecting a recipient will be given to Africana
Studies Majors
