The Affirmative Action Program
- Affirmative Action is a continuous program of positive actions
designed to undo the present effects of past discrimination.
- It is a set of specific and results-oriented procedures that the
organization commits to apply every good faith efforts in the provision
of opportunities in recruitment, selection, appointment, promotion,
training, discipline and related employment areas.
- It is not a quota system, but is good faith efforts to achieve tangible
goals.
- It is not a program of preferential treatment but a program beneficial
to all.
An Affirmative Action Program is more than a written document through
which management assures that all persons have equal opportunities in
recruitment, selection, appointment, promotion, training, discipline
and related employment areas. The program is tailored to the employer's
work force and the skills available in the labor force. It prescribes
specific actions, goals, responsibilities and describes resources to
meet identified needs. The program is a comprehensive results-oriented
evaluation and assessment process designed to achieve equal employment
opportunity rather than merely to assure nondiscrimination.
