Role and Responsibility of the AA/EEO Committees
Knowledgeable and dedicated EEO/AA area committees serve as a valuable
resource in implementing the goals and objectives of an effective Affirmative
Action Plan. They offer real assistance and support to search committees,
and to the Vice Presidents and Deans, who have the ultimate responsibility
for diversification within their divisions, and for producing the Divisional
Affirmative Action Plan.
In revitalizing the role of the EEO/AA area committees, the Office
of Diversity and Affirmative Action assumes responsibility for providing
ongoing communication and training which will enable committees to possess
the accurate knowledge and general skills needed to perform their roles
in an efficient and effective manner. The EEO/AA chair serves as a resource
for the committee members, and the Office of Diversity and Affirmative
Action provides the respective committee chairs with the training they
need to perform their roles for the President, and the Vice Presidents
or Deans. EEO/AA committees report to the chairs of their respective
committee, and the chairs of the committees report to both the respective
Vice Presidents or Deans, and to the Director of the Office of Diversity
and Affirmative Action (Affirmative Action Officer), as the President's
delegate.
