Free Chinese Language Classes

(Non-credit Classes)
Spring 2013

The Confucius Institute at Stony Brook University offers non-credit Chinese language courses for students on campus and interested learners from the community. We also customize instructions to meet the specific needs of special groups by request. After one or two years of studying with us, learners can take the Online HSK Chinese Proficiency Test. The HSK test is offered on campus at Stony Brook University by the Confucius Institute (information available on the website.) Designed and credentialed by Hanban (the Office of Chinese Language Council International of the Chinese Ministry of Education) to assess non-native speakers' Chinese language skills. Students passing various levels of the HSK test will receive certificates issued by Hanban. HSK certificates are accepted as official proof of Chinese proficiency when applying for study opportunities in Chinese institutions of higher education or jobs related to China. They are also required as part of the application for Confucius Institute scholarships for study in China.
