Tracey Walters is Assistant Professor of Literature in the Department of Africana Studies. She holds a joint appointment with the Department of English and teaches a wide range of literature courses which focus on the African Diasporic experience. Walters is currently completing a book project entitled Writing the Classics Black: The Poetic and Political Nature of Black Women's Classical Revision which investigates how and why African American women authors Gwendolyn Brooks, Toni Morrison, and Rita Dove appropriate classical Greek myths. She is also interested in Black British literature and culture-an area in which Walters has published a number of articles: "We're All English Now Mate Like It or Lump It": Zadie Smith's White Teet and the Question of Black/British Fiction," "Recognizing, Redefining, and Reexamining the Black British Literary Canon," and "A Black Britons View of Black British Literature and Scholarship."
