E.K.Tan received his Ph.D. in Comparative and World Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2007. His dissertation title is Lack, Loss and Displacement: Renarrativing "Chineseness" through the Aesthetics of Southeast Asian Literature and Film. His areas of interest include Modern Chinese literature and film, Sinophone literature, Asian diaspora studies, Psychoanalysis, Film Theory, Globalization Theory.
