The Undergraduate College of Science and Society (SSO) emphasizes imagination, research, and discovery in a social context. SSO provides a multidisciplinary community for students to explore scientific knowledge and inquiry within a broader ethical, cultural, and political landscape. SSO engages students in cutting-edge research and exciting areas of study that connect science to society. The College of Science and Society focuses on developing a well-rounded student who is intellectually prepared to meet the challenges of today's complex and changing world.

SSO First-Year Seminars

The First-Year Seminar 101 is a 1-credit course that supports first-year students in their transition to University life - academically, personally, and socially. The course aims to foster a sense of belonging; promote curricular and co-curricular engagement; help students clarify their plan and purpose; and involve students in a dialogue on social responsibility and inclusion.

Roth Quad

Roth Quad

Each Undergraduate College is housed in a specific residential area called a quad, which includes a dedicated Center for seminars, programs, and activities. SSO is part of Roth Quad.

Center for Science and Society

Each Undergraduate College is housed in a specific residential area called a quad, which includes a dedicated Center for seminars, programs, and activities. SSO is part of Roth Quad and the Center includes a seminar rooms, a multipurpose lounge overlooking Roth pond, and access to the Roth Food Court.

Environmental Studies Academy

Environmental Studies Academy

The Academy for Environmental Studies offers an Academic Minor in Environmental Studies, as well as co-curricular activities that emphasize both scientific and social issues from a multidisciplinary perspective. The Academy also provides students with outside-of-class opportunities related to sustainability, animal conservation, and environmental advocacy.
