RECRUITMENT SURVEYS

Subject Recruitment for On-Campus Study of Neural Activity and Depression

In July 2008, the Survey Center conducted a telephone survey to randomly recruit 153 eligible respondents in the greater Stony Brook area for a research project on depression. Subjects were recruited to participate in a study that measured event-related brain potential (ERP) activity among currently, formerly, and never depressed women. The project focused only on women older than 30 years old who lived in Suffolk County. Respondents were asked a series of screening questions that assessed their current and past symptoms of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).

This information was then forwarded with respondents’ permission to the principal investigator who scheduled the women to participate in the study. The project was funded by the Vice President for Research at Stony Brook University through the Seed Grants for Survey Research Program.
