Winter In Ireland

About the Program

Ireland’s rich cultural heritage endured the colonial period and then the more recent post industrial eras as one of the “Celtic Tigers.” Students will begin their exploration in Galway, then heading to the site of one of the first English Plantations – Kilkenny. The trip wraps up in Dublin, the capital of this flourishing nation. Day trips will include visiting the Cliffs of Moher, Connemara, Waterford and Belfast! Through visits to cliffs and castles, cathedrals and tombs, fortresses and museums, mountains and more, students will explore the vibrant history and culture of Ireland.

Course of Study

Participants must a take a total of 4 credits. 

Students will select ONE of the following:
• HIS 208 Ireland from St. Patrick to the Present (DEC I) – 3 credits
• HIS 392 Topics in European History (DEC I) – 3 credits

All students will register for the following:
• HIS 447 Independent Readings in History – 1 credit

Candidates may be interviewed to determine their qualifications for participating and representing Stony Brook University abroad.

Program Cost

Application Fee $60
Tuition Rate $245 per credit for NY residents; $742 per credit for non-residents
Program Fee $2,750 (includes room, 2 meals per day, group excursions, and international health insurance)
Administrative Fee $200 (non-refundable)
International Health Insurance included in the program fee
Other Fees

$2500 (approximately; includes personal expenses, books, passport)

Travel Costs

Estimated Airfare: $1,500.  All student participants will travel together to the study abroad site.  Students who do not abide by this policy may be dismissed from the program.
