Advanced Russian Language Institute in St. Petersburg

About the Program

The 2014 Advanced Critical Language Institute for Russian Immersion (ACLI) is specifically designed to help students of all levels improve their fluency in all aspects of the Russian language. Intermediate and advanced ACLI students pledge to speak only Russian for the duration of the program and enjoy Russian speaking homestays. All participants study for four to five hours daily in small groups with native speaking specialists from St. Petersburg State University, one of Russia’s oldest and most famous educational institutions.

Eligibility

GPA 2.0 GPA and above
Other Requirements All students in good academic standing, including those with no previous Russian language study, may apply for the 6 week course. Undergraduate and Graduate students who have successfully completed at least two years of Russian language coursework may apply for either the six week or four week course.
Application Deadline April 12, 2014
Candidates may be interviewed to determine their qualifications for participating and representing Stony Brook University abroad.

Program Cost

Application Fee $60
Tuition Rate $245 per credit for NY residents; $742 per credit for non-residents
Program Fee Program Fee:4-week Intensive $2890 or 6-week Intensive $3410(includes home stays in a Russian speaking household, 2 meals a day, metro pass, group excursions, international health insurance)
Administrative Fee $200 (non-refundable)
International Health Insurance Included in the Program Fee
Other Fees

Visa Fee: $250 (additional fees may apply).

Travel Costs

Estimated Airfare: $1,700.  All student participants will travel together to the study abroad site.  Students who do not abide by this policy may be dismissed from the program.

Costs are estimates for planning purposes of the student and are subject to change at any point.

Graduate students will be charged tuition at the current graduate student tuition rate

Credits earned on this program will calculate toward a student's GPA at Stony Brook University. Non-SBU Students are advised to check their home university policy on grade and credit transfer.
