Experience International Summer School at the University of Hertfordshire, one of SBU’s most popular partner universities! Hertfordshire University is in close proximity to London via public transportation (about 30-45 minutes), provides college town atmosphere near a major international city.

Course of Study

*6 undergraduate credits required

All students are required to take the following course:
Atlantic Maritime History: (SBC USA or SBS+, DEC F or K, Skill 4)
This class will survey the place and historical development of sea power in the Atlantic World and beyond, focusing primarily on the role of wooden ships during the early modern period in Europe and the Americas.

Students may select one of the following:
European Cinema: (SBC HFA+ or ARTS, DEC I or D)
Students will be guided through a historical overview of some of the key ‘New Waves’ in cinema from distinct European perspectives.

Global Perspectives in Business:
Students are expected to keep up to date with current affairs particularly in the business press and television.

This is an exchange program. Applications must be submitted to Stony Brook University first. Information regarding the next steps in the process will be distributed to students who have received formal nominations by their Exchange Advisor.

Travel Costs

Estimated Airfare: $1,500.  All student participants will travel together to the study abroad site.  Students who do not abide by this policy may be dismissed from the program.

Costs are estimates for planning purposes of the student and are subject to change at any point.

Program Highlights

  • Excursions include Harry Potter World, The Globe Theater, and Buckingham Palace
  • Tours of London, Cambridge, and St. Albans
  • Close proximity to London (about 30-45 minutes via public transportation)

More Information

Grades earned in an exchange program WILL NOT calculate towards the cumulative GPA for SBU students.

Non-SBU students must contact their home university regarding their grade and credit transfer policy.
