International Summer School

About the Program:

Stony Brook University offers students from all over the globe a chance to participate in our International summer school during two sessions. Students have the option to participate in one or both sessions for a minimum of six credits each. International students typically study at Stony Brook on an F-1 visa during the summer.

In addition to the courses, all students may engage in the numerous opportunities and activities, such as our cultural excursions to New York City and Washington D.C.

Required GPA Equivalent GPA of 2.5
Required TOEFL 80 IBT, IELTS 6.5
Other Senior high school students with a college/university admission letter may also apply

How To Submit Your Application:

Phase One: Before acceptance you must provide the following documents.
*Note: Completion of phase one is due April 1st for Session I (May 27 - July 3) and May 1st for Session II (July 7 - August 15)

Complete the online application “ApplyYourself” and upload the following documents:
  1. Study Statement: A one page, typed Study Statement uploaded through Apply Yourself.

  2. Passport: Upload a clear copy of the information page of your passport.

  3. TOEFL (if applicable): Exchange/Visiting students must have a minimum of 80 IBT or 6.5 IELTS. Upload a clear image of your unexpired proficiency score.

  4. Home University Transcripts: Upload a clear image of your home university transcripts.


Phase Two: Upon submission of your completed application, you will receive an admission decision via email. If accepted, your Stony Brook University ID number and additional instructions will be sent to you via email.

Financial Support: International students admitted to our exchange/visiting program must show proof of financial support so that Stony Brook University can issue Certificate of visa Eligibility either for F-1 or J-1 status. Proof can be in the form of a bank letter or an original bank statement which states your name or your sponsor's name in English. Documents must be dated within 6 months of term start date. These documents should be uploaded electronically via Stony Brook University's database system (AccessVIS). Instructions are provided via email on how to submit the financial documents.
