About the Program:

Stony Brook University offers semester or yearlong programs for exchange or visiting students from our prestigious partner universities. In addition to the challenging courses, we encourage all students to engage in the numerous opportunities and activities we have to offer.




Program Information & Eligibility:

Application Deadline March 15 for Fall or Academic Year, October 15 for Spring
Required GPA Equivalent GPA of 2.75
Required TOEFL 80 IBT, IELTS 6.5
Other Requirements Must be nominated from home institution

Important Dates for the Fall 2015 Semester:

First day new students are allowed to check into the dorms Tues, August 18, 2015
Mandatory orientation for new exchange and visiting students Thurs, August 20, 2015
First day of class Mon, August 24, 2015
Last day of finals Weds, December 16, 2015
Required dorm check out by 4PM for students attending only one semester Weds, December 16, 2015



Important Dates for the Spring 2016 Semester:

First day new students are allowed to check into the dorms Tues, January 19, 2016
Mandatory orientation for new exchange and visiting students Thurs, January 21, 2016
First day of class Mon, January 25, 2016
Last day of finals Weds, May 18, 2016
Required dorm check out by 4PM Weds, May 18, 2016




How To Submit Your Application:

Phase One: Before acceptance you must provide the following documents.
*Note: Completion of phase one is due March 15th for Fall and October 15th for Spring

Complete online application “ApplyYourself” and upload the following documents:
  1. Study Statement: A one page, typed Study Statement uploaded through Apply Yourself.

  2. Passport: Upload a clear copy of the information page of your passport.

  3. TOEFL (if applicable): Exchange/Visiting students must have a minimum of 80 IBT or 6.5 IELTS. Upload a clear image of your unexpired proficiency score.

  4. Home University Transcripts: Upload a clear image of your home university transcripts.


Phase Two: Upon submission of your completed application, you will receive an admission decision via email. If accepted, your Stony Brook University ID number and additional instructions will be sent to you via email.

Financial Support: International students admitted to our exchange/visiting program must show proof of financial support so that Stony Brook University can issue Certificate of visa Eligibility either for F-1 or J-1 status. Proof can be in the form of a bank letter or an original bank statement which states your name or your sponsor's name in English. Documents must be dated within 6 months of term start date. These documents should be uploaded electronically via Stony Brook University's database system (AccessVIS). Instructions are provided via email on how to submit the financial documents.



In addition to this you must fill out the Stony Brook University Health Form:

All students should complete the health form and submit it through AccessVIS Click Here. Please keep the originals for future reference.
