Festival of Lights
The Festival of Lights is a Stony Brook tradition that celebrates the rich traditions of people of different cultural backgrounds, faiths, and religious beliefs during the holiday season. This intercultural program reflects our diverse campus community and highlights the most widely observed holidays through performances in song, dance, music and video presentations; displays; holiday crafts-making; and traditional holiday foods. The program highlights various faiths and celebrations, including Christmas/Advent/Three Kings Day (Christian), Hanukkah (Jewish), Ramadan/ Eid-ul Fitr/ Eid-Adha (Muslim), Diwali (Hindu), Winter Solstice (Native American), and Kwanzaa (African American). The Festival is coordinated by University departments, including the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Interfaith Center, and over 15 student organizations.
The 17th Annual Festival of Lights will take place on Wednesday, November 29th from 6:00pm – 8:30pm in Student Activities Center Ballroom A. A Holiday reception is included. Admission is free and open to Stony Brook University students, faculty, and staff and their invited guests.
