This brand-new research center, the first of its kind, was kickstarted by a $300,000 grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. The center is led by director Michael Kimmel, Distinguished Professor in our department.
This unique institute, initiated by a $10 million anonymous donation and matching funds from the Simons Foundation, brings together social scientists, computer scientists and natural scientists for cross-fertilization of ideas around large-scale data analysis and high performance computing. Our own Arnout van de Rijt, Associate Professor of Sociology, is one of the eight core faculty.
