Welcome

The Simons Summer Research Program gives academically talented, motivated high school students the opportunity to engage in hands-on research in science, math or engineering at Stony Brook University. Simons Fellows work with distinguished faculty mentors, learn laboratory techniques and tools, become part of active research teams, and experience life at a research university.

Simons SRP 2027

June 28 - August 6, 2027

Application link will be posted on November 15.

Our Fellows

Simons Fellows are high school juniors, nominated by their schools. For six weeks they work inside a faculty research group — running experiments, analyzing data, taking on a question of their own — and finish by presenting a research poster. Prior research experience isn’t required.

Our Mentors

Fellows are matched with Stony Brook faculty in chemistry, computer science, geosciences, marine science, neurobiology, and more than a dozen other departments. They join research already underway and contribute to it, performing some of the same kinds of work the lab would be doing during the academic year. Because they are commited to nurturing future generations of researchers, mentors volunteer their time to make this experience possible.
