ACADEMIC STANDING & APPEALS
At Stony Brook, academic standing is defined by cumulative grade point average. All undergraduate students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative average of 2.00 to be considered in good academic standing. The academic standing of each undergraduate is reviewed at the end of each semester and students are notified if they are at risk academically and/or if they are in jeopardy of being suspended or dismissed. Please visit www.stonybrook.edu/uaa/academicstanding/ for additional information about academic standing and the retention system which is designed to identify and provide academic support to students in academic difficulty.
In addition, students are expected to review, understand, and abide by University procedures, requirements, and deadlines as presented in student publications and on University websites. On occasion, extraordinary circumstances permit students to request an exception to an academic regulation or deadline. Students seeking an academic exception should first speak with their academic advisor for guidance.
