The Center for Inclusive Education invites you to a four-day writing retreat to be held at Stony Brook’s Southampton campus on July 20-24, 2015. This retreat will be an opportunity for graduate students and postdocs to get away for focused writing time to work on a dissertation, manuscript, proposals or fellowship applications. 
Registration Cost: $300

Single Dorm Unit with Kitchen (Linens Included)
One-On-One and Group Writing Sessions

2. Postdoc Speaker registration now open for SBU Postdoc Spotlight on Sept 17, 2015
Registration is now open for postdocs to sign up to present their research at this year’s SBU Postdoc Spotlight. The Spotlight features eight-minute TED-like talks from our postdocs on their research designed for audience of non-specialists. 
Selected speakers will receive individualized coaching on their presentation from the nationally-recognized Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science. Speakers must commit to two coaching sessions:
Session 1: August 26, 2015, 10:00 am - 11:30 am;
Session 2: One of four times: 
Sept 9, 10:00 am-12:00 pm; OR 
Sept 9, 2:00 - 4:00 pm; OR 
Sept 10, 9:00 - 11:00 am; OR 
Sept 10, 1:00 - 3:00 pm.
Speaker slots are limited, so sign up now. Once selected, speakers will be asked to submit a talk title and short abstract designed with a lay audience in mind.

The CEWIT2015 Conference program is pleased to again offer Big Data and Data Science Tutorials for conference attendees on day two, Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at the Melville Marriott Long Island. 
Each tutorial is a 3-hour, for-pay, beginner-intermediate level workshop on Python Data Analytics and R Data Mining, instructed by experts from the NYC Data Science Academy Team and certified by The Center for Corporate Education at Stony Brook University.

4. Sign up (quickly!) for free membership with the New York Academy of Sciences
We have a very limited number of free, one-year memberships to the New York Academy of Sciences exclusively for our postdocs at Stony Brook. These memberships have been generously donated by NYAS Corporate Member Infosys (www.infosys.com). 
If you would like one of these free memberships and to have member access to programs and resources from NYAS and the NYAS Science Alliance, its professional development program for early-career scientists, e-mailpostdocs@stonybrook.edu.  First come, first served. 
Funding
The new Long Island Bioscience Hub (LIBH) is offering three specific funding programs have been designed to help faculty and postdoctoral associates develop their academic innovations toward commercial goals. The awards can support feasibility, proof of concept, and commercialization activities. 
A collaboration between the Center for Biotechnology, Stony Brook University, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, and Brookhaven National Laboratory, the Long Island Bioscience Hub will foster the development of therapeutics, preventatives, diagnostics, devices and research tools emerging from partner institutions that address diseases within the NIH's mission.
