3. Still time to enroll! Scientists Teaching Science Online Summer Course, Jun 15 – Aug 24

Are you interested in teaching, but your students doze off during your lectures? Do you find yourself wondering if there’s a different way of teaching science than just talking to them and showing them slides and illustrations? Are you struggling to leverage your teaching experiences into a teaching statement and portfolio for job applications? Take the online course “Scientists Teaching Science” and learn about active learning, creating course objectives and test items, and finding ways to improve your teaching and assessment techniques for students of all ages.

Learn at your own pace in this nine-week long online, mobile-accessible course. There are no mandatory class meetings and the time commitment is estimated at three hours a week. Stony Brook has negotiated a special discounted rate of $200 for our graduate students and postdocs to take this course.

All participants will receive one-on-one engagement, personal review of written assignments, and personalized advice on teaching. Participants who complete the course requirements will also receive a certificate of completion and become eligible for a personal letter of recommendation from the instructor about teaching preparation for future employment.

COURSE FEE: $200 (payable to instructor)

HOW TO SIGN UP: Register online HERE. (class opens as early as June 8, 2015)
