SB Foundation
The Stony Brook Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation established in 1965 as the sole official
fundraising and private gift-receiving agency for Stony Brook University, one of the
research centers of the State University of New York. Working closely with the Office
of Advancement, the foundation receives gifts of cash, securities, real and personal
property, and deferred gifts such as bequests, life insurance, and life income agreements.
Gifts to the Stony Brook Foundation are fully tax deductible to the extent provided
by law.
The elected Board of Trustees, composed of business, professional and community leaders,
as well as representatives of the university administration, manages the funds received
by the foundation. Those funds support every aspect of university endeavor, including
research, education, public service, faculty and student development, health care,
and economic and cultural development.
The foundation receives and administers all funds other than government grants for
the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center, including admissions, ticket sales, proceeds
from benefit events, memberships, individual donations, and grants from private foundations.
Grants from federal, state and other government agencies are administered by the university’s
Research Foundation.
