The Stony Brook Chamber Music Festival showcases many of the most exciting performance trends in the Department, including chamber music, contemporary music, Baroque performance and faculty/student collaborations.  It runs for four days, culminating with a winner’s concert on Saturday night, featuring two groups who shared first prize in the prestigious Ackerman Chamber Music Competition.

Among the faculty collaborations, members of the Emerson Quartet will join students for repertoire including movements from the Mendelssohn Octet, and both Carol Wincenc and Frank Morelli will be featured earlier in the week.

Festival highlights include a complete performance of Appalachian Spring, the Gounod Petit Symphonie and fiery works for mixed percussion duos on the Ackerman Concert.

Jazz combos will play on Wednesday afternoon in the Plaza, and again after the 8pm Wednesday evening concert.  The Contemporary Chamber Players concert culminates in a work by local favorite and longtime revered faculty member Peter Winkler for Baroque ensemble.

Concerts are free and open to the public.
