Stony Brook Welcomes Middle States Evaluation Team on March 30th –April 2, 2014
Every 10 years, Stony Brook University undertakes a self-study and external review leading to the very important step of reaccreditation. As part of this process we will be welcoming to campus ten visitors from peer institutions across the Middle States Commission on Higher Education region, which covers the region from New York to DC. During their visit, from March 30th to April 2, 2014, they will evaluate the University’s Self-Study report and our compliance with 14 Standards of Excellence (covering everything from undergraduate and graduate academic standards to the financial and organization state of the university). The evaluation visit this spring is the result of a two-year review process that has involved close to a hundred administrators, faculty and students, culminating in a self-study report that reflects on all aspects of what the University is, does, and aspires to be.
Reaccreditation provides an opportunity for the university to reflect on the past decade and to review our current educational offerings and research activities, the inclusion of diversity in our curricula and campus life, how we assess institutional effectiveness and student learning, and a wide range of other key issues that will shape the future of Stony Brook.
