Research in biomedical application of materials range from studying the toxicity of
nanoparticles, templates for tissue engineering, separation of DNA on surfaces, and
fabrication of antimicrobial surface.

Researches in Catalysis include Biomass/Petroleum derived resources conversion into
chemical and fuel, Methane and CO2 reduction and utilization, NOx treatment, Surface
reaction, Kinetics and Reaction engineering, and In-situ and Operando spectroscopy.

Research in Computational Materials Science include study of polymers and soft matter,
nano-crytsalline alloys, energy storage, and the design of the next generation of

The crystal growth facilities in the department allow for the study of defects and
structure within crystals. Of particular interest is the growth facets of Silicon
Carbide and High Tc Superconductors.

Research in energy and the environment includes energy storage, biofuels, fuel cells,
environmental remediation and sustainable materials development.

Different groups, ranging from theoretical to experimental, are working in studying
how nanotechnology can be used to improve material properties.

Research in polymers includes the study of dynamics in thin films, polymer nanocomposites,
wetting and self-assembly.
