Fellowships to pursue graduate studies in Italian/Italian American Studies at Stony Brook University:

Congratulazioni Ed Auguri! We are very pleased to inform you of the outcome of the Center for Italian Studies Annual Essay Contest which for the last several years has had the following theme: Exploring the Culture of Italian Americana Through Italian American Writers.

There was just one designated winner:

Michael Pocress, Oceanside High School, who wrote about his reading of  "The Madonna of 115th Street" by Robert Anthony Orsi.

Another contestant from Oceanside High School, Mario Curra, received Honorable Mention for his submission on "The Godfather" by Mario Puzo.

Honorable Mention Recognition also went to Alexis Grace Spera, Garden City High School, for her essay on "The Courtyard of Dreams," by Anna Monardo

who each reported on their reading of "Innocent Heart, Laughter, and Tears" by Antonia Sparano Geiser, a former Malverne High School graduate.

The Winner received a $100 Money Prize and a Certificate of Excellence.

Honorable Mention designees received $25 and a Certificate of Excellence.

 

Prizes and personal congratulations were extended with visits to each school on June 3, 2015 when Center for Italian Studies representatives Dr. Joseph Tursi and Jo Fusco met with the students in the classes from which the students submitted their essays.
