Gaia Giuliani, Centre of Social Studies (CES) - University of Coimbra

"The Color of the Nation: Intersectional Representations in Modern Italy"

In her lecture, Giuliani will discuss the issue raised in her forthcoming book, Race, Gender and Nation in Modern Italy: Intersectional Representations in Visual Culture.  In this new text, she explores intersectional constructions of race and whiteness in modern and contemporary Italy through an analysis of political debates, social practices and visual materials from the national unity (1861) to the present.
