giftsThe holiday season can be a difficult time of the year to stay physically active and maintain your weight. Many Americans gain between one to four pounds during the time between Thanksgiving and New Year's. While this may not seem like a lot, studies show that most individuals keep that holiday weight on each year, which can significantly add up over time. This season, give yourself the gift of health by taking the "Maintain Don't Gain" Healthy Holiday Challenge! Program details can be found below:

WHAT IS IT

"Maintain Don't Gain" Healthy Holiday Challenge is a six-week program designed to help individuals maintain their weight and activity level during the holiday season.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

All interested parties should register no later than Wednesday, 11/22 (day before Thanksgiving). During registration you will be asked to report your official starting weight (if you do not enter your weight during registration, you will receive a reminder email to do so before Thanksgiving). Once registered, you will receive a welcome email to the competition including more program details and a "Maintain Don't Gain" Healthy Holiday Challenge pledge for you to complete. At the conclusion of the six week program, you will be sent a link to report your final weight. If you stay within 1% of your starting weight, you will be entered into a raffle to win some exciting prizes!

Please note that all personal information is kept confidential and never shared.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Each Monday participants will receive an email with healthy holiday tips, recipe makeovers and a 10-15 minute exercise guide to help you fit in fitness throughout the holiday season. Weekly email themes are detailed below:

  • Week 1 (11/20 - 11/26) - Rethink your Holiday Plate
  • Week 2 (11/27 - 12/3) - Avoiding Holiday Stress
  • Week 3 (12/4 - 12/10) - Holiday Party Survival Guide
  • Week 4 (12/11 - 12/17) - Realistic Expectations
  • Week 5 (12/18 - 12/24) - The Gift of Wellness
  • Week 6 (12/25 - 1/1) - New Year, New U

THE PLEDGE

The journey to a healthy lifestyle can be a tumultuous one; but it can be a lot smoother when you have someone to help you along the way. Print out, complete and sign the "Maintain Don't Gain" Healthy Holiday Challenge pledge indicating your personal commitment to the challenge. Find at least one friend, family member or co-worker who is willing to support you throughout the six-week program, and ask them to sign the pledge on your behalf. The pledge will also feature a weight tracker and a place for you to write down how you'll reward yourself upon the successful completion of the program. This could be anything from a new phone to New York Islanders tickets. You do not have to turn in the pledge, it is simply to serve as a reminder, so place it in a reinforcing location.
