4/11 - 5/9 Meditation: The Path to Happiness Wang Center

These beginner meditation classes are perfect both for newcomers and for those with more experience. Buddhist meditation gives us direct insight into the causes of happiness within our mind, shows us how to cultivate them, and how to integrate them into our everyday activities. This will vastly improve your life in all areas: work, school, home, and play.

Sessions will take place each Wednesday for five weeks (4/11 - 5/9) from 1-2pm in the Wang Center and are free to all students & employees. Pre-registration required.

This program is provided in partnership with the Kadampa Meditation Center Long Island and sponsored by Healthier U.

4/4 - 5/9 Line Dancing Workshop  Long Island State Veteran's Home

Back by popular demand, Healthier U in partnership with UUP, is pleased to offer another line dancing workshop!
Come join Deanna, from Dancing with Deanna, to learn all the current dances and some of the classics to a variety of music styles. The new six-week series will take place each Wednesday from 4/4 - 5/9 at the Long Island State Veterans Home. Each session will run from 5:15 - 6:15pm.
Line dancing is a great way to exercise, boost your memory, reduce stress, improve your balance and energy levels, meet new friends and have fun all at the same time! Whether you're an experienced dancer or a beginner, everyone will learn the basics and get a good workout.
Program is free to all employees and space is limited. Don't delay, register today!

WomenHeart @ Work (W@W) is WomenHeart’s workplace-based heart health outreach initiative to raise heart health awareness where so many Americans put their hearts every day—the workplace. 
WomenHeart @ Work bridges the gap between individual health and workplace productivity, providing employees with a basic understanding of heart health!
Employees will learn about the signs and symptoms of heart disease, key risks factors associated with heart disease, necessary lifestyle changes to reduce risk and much more.

Emergency Preparedness Workshop Charles B. Wang Center Chapel With severe weather becoming more frequent and extreme, it is more important than ever to be prepared for disasters. The New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES), together with Stony Brook University is holding a training course that will give you the knowledge and tools to prepare for emergencies and disasters, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible.  All participants will receive:
• FREE travel first aid kit and flashlight* compliments of the Stony Brook University Employee Assistance Program
• Training completion certificate
• Wallet-sized z-card with emergency preparedness information
• Complimentary pizza and water.
All participants will also be entered into a raffle to win one of three NYS Disaster Preparedness Kits as well as other Healthier U merchandise.

The Charles B. Wang Center Presents:
Finding Peace in Stressful Times Through the Practice of Meditation
Surrounded by distractions, demands from others, and the pressures of school and work? Can we find a quiet, centered place to dwell within the chaos? Come to this workshop to learn how to overcome "overwhelm" through the practice of meditation and start to experience a deep and authentic inner peace.  
The six-week series begins Tuesday 11/14, is free to all employees and students, and will take place each Tuesday from 12-1pm in the Wang Center Chapel.

Line Dancing Workshop Long Island State Veteran's Home Back by popular demand, Healthier U in partnership with UUP is pleased to offer another linedancingworkshop! The new series will begin on Wednesday, 11/1, run for six weeks and take place at the Long Island State Veterans Home on East Campus. 
Linedancing is a great way to exercise, boost your memory, reduce stress, improve your balance and energy levels, meet new friends and have fun all at the same time! Whether you're an experienced dancer or a beginner, everyone will learn the basics and get a good workout. Partners not needed.  
Come join Deanna, from Dancing with Deanna, to learn all the current dances and some of the classics to a variety of music styles. Dances will be selected based on the skill level of the class. Get moving this spring, burn off the calories and make some new friends in the process!

Food Literacy for Disease Prevention Workshop Student Center, Stony Brook Southampton The Food Lab at Stony Brook Southampton presents an engaging, hands-on workshop that offers participants an introduction to basic cooking and nutrition skills to help prevent the three major causes of death and disease in America: heart disease, cancer and stroke.Students will come away with many easy-to-implement food principles, new recipes and cooking skills, as well as an opportunity ask specific questions for nutritional needs to prevent or address current illness. This workshop is ideal for healthcare professionals, parents of young children and those trying to improve their overall diet and eating habits.Students who complete the workshop will be issued a digital badge in recognition of the skills they will have developed. Digital badges are microcredentials that may be displayed in online portfolios and shared via social media sites, such as LinkedIn. Varied Community Heartsaver/AED CPR Classes Heart Center, Stony Brook Hospital Stony Brook Heart Institute Educators provide free Community CPR classes. An American Heart Association 2 year certification card is available, the cost is $10 (cash/check). Classes are held at the Heart Center in Stony Brook Hospital. Pre-registration is required but same day registration may be possible.All classes are held at 4pm and last approximately 3 ½- 4 hours.See attached flyer for dates and contact information.
