Assessment of Neurobehavioural Endpoints and Markers of Neurotoxicant Exposures (ANEMONE)
A study conducted in the Faroe Islands, Denmark, looks at effects of mercury in people that consume a diet rich in seafood as well as marine mammals. The objective of the ANEMONE project is “to improve methods for assessment of hazardous exposures to neurotoxicants and for early detection of cognitive effects…”.

BRI has played a leadership role in monitoring the effects of mercury in wildlife in the U.S. and is now working with the international community to develop a mercury monitoring program to assess the impact of the soon to be signed global mercury agreement (fall 2013) organized by the United Nations Environment Programme.

Dec. 2012 update: The C-MERC collaborative published a report, "Sources to Seafood Mercury Pollution in the Marine Environment" that summarizes 11 scientific papers on mercury in the marine environment.
