Why is Stony Brook University changing to a new meal plan?

COMMUNITY BUILDING

  • Students can eat, study and socialize with friends at the dine-in facilities

PLANS INCREASE CHOICE

  • Students can choose to eat at the 3 dine-in locations – West Side Dining, Roth and East Side Dining
  • Students can continue enjoying all retail locations through Dining Dollars

VALUE

  • With unlimited plans or meals per week plans students will enjoy meals every week of the semester
  • No need to “stay on budget”
  • Students can eat as much as they want once they’re in the dine-in locations

QUALITY

  • Students can choose to eat what they want, not just what they can afford
  • Meal Plans may encourage healthier eating choices such as fruits and vegetables

What types of meal plans will be offered?

FULL DECLINING BALANCE

  • Same as current plans
  • Available to returning students

UNLIMITED MEALS*

  • Anytime dining - Eat anytime, as many times as you wish
  • Available in 3 resident dining facilities: West Side Dining, Roth and East Side Dining

MEALS PER WEEK*

  • Same number of meals available every week
  • Available in 3 resident dining facilities: West Side Dining, Roth and East Side Dining
  • After 7 days, plan resets. Meals don’t roll over

COMMUTER/APARTMENT PLANS

  • Declining balance: same as current plans
  • Block meal plan: a specific number of meals to be used throughout the semester
  • Budget (prepaid)

*Unlimited and Meals per week plans may also include Dining Dollars to be used at retail locations (SAC, Jasmine, Starbucks, Jamba Juice/Sandella’s and Dunkin’ Donuts at Tabler Café). Dining Dollars can be used at Dine-in locations if you pay the door price.

 

Things to Remember

  • Dining Dollars roll over from fall to spring. Meal swipes reset each week. The meal plan week begins on Friday and ends on Thursday.
    • The last day to use your Dining Dollars is May 19, 2017
  • Options to change meal plan:
    • upgrade anytime
    • downgrade during the first three weeks of the semester
  • Meal plan exceptions for new students who need full declining balance meal plans for kosher and halal dietary restrictions
  • All retail locations accept dining dollars, Wolfie Wallet, cash and credit
  • Late night: students can pay door prices at West Side Dining, Roth and East Side Dining if they are not on an unlimited or meals per week plan. Door price can be paid with dining dollars, Wolfie Wallet, cash and credit.
  • The Dine-In program will minimize food waste and use reusable dishware and silverware at West Side Dining and East Side Dining
  • You may use Dining Dollars to purchase meals at the hospital or Health Sciences. Please send a request to the meal plan office to have your card activated for use at these locations.
