Federal Work Study
Federal Work Study is offered through the federal campus-based aid program and provides employment opportunities to eligible matriculated students.
Priority consideration is given to students who file a FAFSA by their respective deadline designations (listed below). The award amount is based on the student's financial need, the availability of funds to the campus, the number of hours the student can work per week, and the current pay rate. Students receive Federal Work Study funds in the form of a bi-weekly paycheck for the hours worked. On campus job opportunities are listed on the Career Center Website.

What is the Community Service FWS Program?
The Community Service Federal Work Study program (CSFWS) is a federally subsidized work program, which provides eligible students the opportunity to work for a public or 501 (c) 3 non-profit sector organization whose mission and work benefit the community.
The Financial Aid Office determines eligibility and the maximum earnings each student is allowed per academic year. Currently enrolled undergraduate/graduate students who have a financial aid package may qualify for CS FWS, with the following exceptions:
- International students are not eligible
- Seniors who are graduating from Stony Brook University are not eligible the summer after their senior year
