Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant/Clinical Instructor

Required Qualifications

Current New York State Physician Assistant License/Registration.  Bachelor's Degree from an approved US PA program.  New York State certification as a Physician Assistant in area of specialty.  Minimum of 1-3 years Cardiothoracic Surgical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Cardiac or Surgical Intensive Care experience.  Recent Physician Assistant experience with cardiac patients through full range of therapies from diagnostic testing through hospital stay.  Previous teaching experience and involvement in community organizations.

Responsibilities & Requirements

Under the direct or indirect supervision of the Cardiothoracic Physician, the Physician Assistant will manage the Cardiac patients in the Cardiothoracic intensive care unit and, when necessary, will evaluate patients on the nursing floors and in the emergency department.  The Physician Assistant will perform all required duties necessary to manage the patient including the preparation of the patient for the Operating Room as necessary.  

The position required the supervision of the other CT Surgery, CTICU Physician Assistants, however collaboration with other disciplines is an important facet of the position.

Quickly assist and appropriately manage emergency issues with cardiac surgical patients.  Attend seminars in surgery, attend continuing education classes/seminars, as needed.

The Cardiothoracic Surgical Physician Assistant is expected to stay current in surgical patient care issues, to participate in appropriate continuing education and to maintain current licensing and credentialing.

Special Notes

This is a non-tenure track position.  FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.  Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.  Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible.
